The Dow Chemical Co., Houston, recently introduced its Health+
line of polyethylene resins for medical and pharmaceutical packaging,
as well as medical devices such as protective needle caps and
sheaths, labware, and incidental parts such as handles. These grades
are produced to stringent quality specifi cations and offer better
consistency as well as an enhanced level of service. For example,
Dow offers an extended 12-month period for Notification of Change
in specifications, product composition, sourcing location, and discontinuation
of a product. Also, Dow may test certain products for
USP Class VI, USP 61, FDA, and/or ISO 10993 certifications.
Although some grades in the Health+ family have been available
for years, this broader portfolio indicates Dow’s expanding
participation in the healthcare market. The family now includes
eight HDPEs (including one Continuum grade) and two LDPEs.
