General Polymers to Distribute Lotte Chemical Alabama's PP Compounds in North America
General Polymers’ distribution agreement with Lotte adds prime branded PP compounds to its arsenal of thermoplastics.
The nearly two-year old fast-growing North American resin distributor General Polymers Thermoplastic Materials, Clarkston, Mich., has further expanded its portfolio with a new distribution agreement with Lotte Chemical Alabama, Auburn Ala. Since the startup of its compounding facility in Alabama in 2012, the latter has become a market leading provider of prime branded PP compounds.
The Lotte Chemical portfolio includes short glass fiber reinforced PP (PP-SGF), mineral reinforced and TPO compounds. Moreover, the company’s Surpran long glass fiber reinforced PP (PP-LGF) is reportedly manufactured with a unique impregnation technique. Surpran is reinforced with fibers of the same length (6-25 mm) via a pultrusion process, and made into pellets for use in a range of injection molded products. Final molded products are said to contain randomly oriented fibers in a mesh-like behavior that proffer excellent mechanical properties, dimensional stability, as well as heat resistance. Grades of Surpran include glass reinforcement ranging from 20-to-60%.
