Macro Plastics Adds Two New Negri Bossi Bi-Power Machines
Installation of the new Bi-Power presses and Sytrama robots was completed in March 2016.
Macro Plastics, Shelbyville, KY, recently added two Negri Bossi Bi-Power injection molding machines. The 2200-ton and 3850-ton Bi-Power injection molding machines are paired with two Negri Bossi Sytrama 301G integrated Cartesian servo robots. The machines have been installed in order to handle increased demand for bulk materials handling products.
The two machine cells are the first to be installed at the Kentucky facility and represent a significant investment for Macro Plastics. According to Jeff Mitchell, Macro Plastics Vice President of Operations, “We selected Negri Bossi for this project because of our six-year satisfactory experience with their machines and robots at our Fairfield, California plant, and in particular because of the ease with which the equipment can be configured to meet our particular molding requirements. We know that we can always count on Negri Bossi, their support staff has always been very helpful and quick to address our issues.”
The Bi-Power is highly modular two-platen clamp, hybrid power injection molding machine available in models from 1100 to 7700-ton with injection capacities ranging from 104.4 to 2641.5 (x1 injection unit 1000- to 7000- tonne models) and also 4134.1 to 5282.9 (x2 injection units on 7000-tonne model) across the line. Machines are extremely compact featuring a robust twin cylinder injection unit, yet feature substantial tie bar spacing and long ejector strokes. The moving platen rides on precision slideways and features a “hydroblock” tie bar locking system for reportedly excellent reliability and faster dry cycle times.
