WEB EXCLUSIVE A new manufacturing cell is designed for production of handles and grips made of multiple materials of different thicknesses that need widely differing cooling times. This new development from Italian injection machine supplier Presma SpA (represented here by Presma Corp., East Brunswick, N.J.) was recently demonstrated producing a PP handle overmolded with a TPE in one of four different colors. Cycle time is 50 to 60 sec. The multi-station plant has two double injection units (horizontal), vertical presses of 110 or 165 tons, four-cavity molds, a checking station, a special cooling station, and a six-axis robot for insert and part handling. Parts with large cores are cooled with an air-cooled cooling station that reportedly does not extend production cycle times. Parts can be cooled there for a number of cycles before being transferred for overmolding. The lower mold halves are mounted on a sliding table to ease robot loading and unloading and simplify maintenance. (732) 390-4599 * www.presma.it
