Ben Davenport, site director for the Coppell facility, which opened in 2013 and is minutes from the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, told Plastics Technology that the molding is in support of a diabetes management product.

 

For this project, Nypro completed a 1,500-sq-ft Class 100,000 cleanroom in its 32,000-sq-ft Texas operation, installing two all-electric molding machines with clamp forces of 33 and 55 tons. In addition to the cleanroom, the ISO 13485 greenfield site, which is dubbed NPI for “new product introduction,” also offers 3D printing, CNC machining, rapid prototyping, and insert molding, with a full machine shop and metrology lab. To support device assembly, it offers UV bonding, laser marking, solvent bonding, and ultrasonic welding. The location was chosen for its centralized geographic position in the U.S. and proximity to a major airport, allowing one-day visits from customers.

 

Davenport said that at this time the facility has 15 total employees, but plans are in place to expand the engineering staff by 10 to 12 over the next fiscal year as the company “continues to assess additional capacities.” The Texas operation works in partnership with Nypro facilities in St Petersburg, Fla. and Shanghai as part of the company’s product development group.
