See a 7-Layer Stretch Line Controlled by AI
Colines producing high-tech stretch film on a line with an artificial intelligence control package.

Even grizzled veterans of NPEs can’t recall the last time a cast film line was run at the show. But Italy’s Colines is bucking the trend, running a stretch line with an artificial intelligence (AI) control package called Mastermind.
Colines’ AllRollEx line will be operating from 12 to 3 p.m. on May 6-9, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 10. The line will be producing a 12 microns, 7-layer structure prestretch film.
The Mastmind control in operation the line enables:
- Automapping: Auto die mapping with no manual adjustment required.
- Autosizing: Automatic change of reel size without halting the extrusion line.
- Interfacing with MES Live Control for Big Data analysis and production monitoring.
- Easy maintenance mode.
Colines says Mastermind provides dramatic reduction of setup and startup times of the extrusion line; in stretch film production, 2 sigma 1% is achieved in 180 seconds, says the machine builder. The system is also said to provde consistent production quality over time. It’s also billed as safe and user friendly, as even less experienced operators can easily manage the system.
