Sekisui Starts Up New Hybrid Foam Molding Facility in Ohio
Plans for Sekisui's new foam molding facility include material production.
Last month, Sekisui Plastics USA, Mount Pleasant, Tenn., opened up its new $5.2-million, Kenton, Ohio manufacturing facility, increasing the company’s molding capacity by nearly 40% with room for expansion.
The 80,000-sq.ft. facility will initially will produce products made primarily from the company’s Piocelan moldable bead-foam resin—a hybrid of styrenic and olefin components for use in automotive parts, baby seat-core parts, and other industrial markets such as protective packaging. The company has experienced significant growth in the South/Central region of the U.S. and is aiming to meet the needs of its expanding customer base in the North/Central region of the country.
The new facility houses Sekisui’s tooling development and machining operation, which includes part and tool design, tooling manufacturing, modification and repair. Its initial monthly molding capacity of 20-40 m.t. is expected to increase to 100 m.t. in the near future. Future plans for this facility include Piocelan foamable resin production and extrusion capabilities for various foamed and unfoamed products.
