Sigma Plastics Buys Tara Plastics Corp.
Sigma Plastics says the Tara deal reflects the company鈥檚 expansion into value-added films.
Sigma Plastics Group (Lyndhurst, NJ, USA) has acquired Tara Plastics Corp. (Forest Park, GA, USA). The terms were not disclosed. Blaige & Co. (Chicago, IL, USA) advised Tara Plastics on the sale.
“As a specialist in superior quality 3-layer converter film, Tara Plastics is an excellent addition to Sigma Plastics Group’s portfolio of film extrusion capabilities,” said Thomas Blaige, chairman and CEO of Blaige & Co. “Further, the company’s zipper capabilities provide Sigma with an exciting product extension.”
Tara Plastics specializes in the production of 3-layer linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) film for high-speed converting applications. In addition to co-extruded film, the company also produces mono-layer PE for industrial applications and extruded zippers for zip-lock pouches. The company’s products are used in various end markets including food, specialty chemicals and industrial packaging.
Sigma Plastics Group is the largest privately owned film extrusion group in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Sigma has 44 manufacturing facilities producing 2 billion pounds of resin-based products per year. Sigma Plastics manufactures industrial film, agricultural film, commercial plastic film, stretch film, merchandise bags, industrial trash liners, produce bags, hygiene films, t-shirt bags, garment bags and food bags.
Alfred Teo Sr., founder and chairman of Sigma Plastics, said in a news release that the Tara deals reflects the company’s expansion into value-added film. This represents the 25th transaction as part of Sigma’s strategic partnership program since 1990.
