As the latest step in its efforts to expand use of its MuCell microcellular foaming technology in extrusion blow molding, Trexel has announced a partnership with W. Müller GmbH of Germany and Agawam, Mass., to offer hardware systems for multilayer foam/solid blow molding that reduces the weight of containers and can alleviate the cost of using recycled materials. W. Müller is a leader in equipment for multilayer extrusion blow molding, supplying parison heads, extruders and controls. Through this new arrangement, Trexel will provide the physical foaming equipment and expertise for introducing supercritical nitrogen or CO2, while W. Müller will provide the multilayer blow molding equipment and expertise in its operation.
The partnership allows for trials to be conducted in technical centers in North America and Europe. The foaming technology reportedly can be easily retrofitted to an existing screw and barrel, with no license fee.
