Asahi Kasei Solutions for Recycling Will Be Showcased at Fakuma
Company will show its solutions and materials for circular polyamides.
will display a biobased and biodegradable cellulose nano fiber (CNF). This material is made from cotton linter and features a high heat resistance and network-forming ability. CNF-reinforced polyamide shows a thixotropic behavior (viscous when stagnant, liquefies when disturbed), making it highly suitable for 3D printing applications for easy printing, dimensional accuracy, smooth appearance and mechanical performance. According to the company, CNF has superior material recyclability compared to glass fibers.

The company will also present its comprehensive solutions for establishing a sustainable life cycle for polyamide 66 (PA66). In the field of chemical recycling for PA66, the company works together with Japanese partner company Microwave Chemical. The process utilizes microwaves to depolymerize automotive airbags and other PA66 parts and directly obtain the monomers hexamethylenediamine (HMD) and adipic acid (ADA), which is expected to be accomplished at high yield with low energy consumption. The monomers obtained can then be used to manufacture new PA66.
In parallel, Asahi Kasei will introduce its development of a new solvent-based recycling process for the first time in Europe. By applying this dissolution recycling, high-quality PA66 can be obtained from process scraps and used PCR materials, like airbags.
Asahi Kasei will exhibit its new material and processes at October 15-19, 2024.
