Biobased, Biodegradable Oil for Vacuum Pumps
Vegetable-oil based drop-in for mineral oils is said to perform even better.

of Harville, Ohio, has introduced Bio-Vacuum Pump Oil, a biodegradable and biobased lubricant developed specifically for use in vacuum pumps. This nontoxic, zinc-free formulation based on vegetable oils contains no heavy metals. A direct replacement for mineral-oil based lubricants, Bio-Vacuum Pump Oil boasts even better performance—higher viscosity index (VI) for improved thermal shear stability and increased load capacity, as well as extremely low volatility for flash and fire safety. It’s said to provide the anti-wear, anti-rus, anti-rust, anti-foam and demulsibility properties required for vacuum pumps. The new oil also reportedly exceeds the acute toxicity criteria of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. EPA. It reportedly meets EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) guidelines for Environmetally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs).
