Large Medium-Pressure Press with Inline Compounding Option
An 800-ton, two-stage press with medium-pressure capability for either solid injection molding or structural foam also offers an inline compounding option for the fixed extruder.
Wilmington Machinery will be featuring its Lumina MP800 two-platen, 800-ton press with two-stage (screw/plunger) injection and 44-lb shot capacity. With medium-pressure capability (10,000 psi injection), this machine offers flexibility for either solid or structural-foam molding. It offers twice the tonnage of a typical foam press and around twice the injection pressure, as well. It also has an injection rate of 20 lb/sec, about twice the usual for structural foam.
This unit has an electric screw drive and energy-saving hydraulics with variable-frequency drive (VFD). This press also has a 6-in. extruder with throughput up to 2000 lb/hr.
A new inline-compounding option equips the fixed extruder with a single screw of at least 30:1 L/D and dual mixing sections. It would be flood-fed with a mix of preblended materials to be homogenized in the extruder. The company claims uniform mixing of up to six components, thanks to the screw technology developed in the company’s lab over the past year.
