An extended product family of nylon-based TPEs, also known as polyether-block-amides (PEBA) is newly availble from Nylon Corporation of America, Inc. (NYCOA), Manchester, N.H. Targeted to a range of applications in the automotive, sporting goods, personal electronics, composite, and specialty film materials, the Ny-Flex elastomer range is positioned as a new and innovative class of engineering TPEs (E-TPEs). Available in hardness from 82 Shore D to 90 Shore A, they have lower specific gravity compared to TPUs and are easily processed using thermoplastic processing techniques.
Characterized by a nylon block which is the hard segment and the polyether block which is the soft, flexible segment, NyFlex grades are, as such, hybrid materials that boast a unique combination of rubber-like elastomeric properties and thermoplastic-like processing capabilities. By varying the type and the ratio of these two blocks, a wide range of grades are offered and are said to deliver a broad range of benefits including excellent flexibility at low temperature, superior retention of properties to elevated temperature, and exceptional toughness and resilience. High creep resistance, strong resistance to flex fatigue, good abrasion resistance, and superior resistance to greased, oils, and solvent are also claimed.Related Content
