Materials: New LSRs Feature Optical Clarity & Nylon Bonding
Shin-Etsu’s latest are suited to lenses and medical devices.
Two recent LSR developments from Shin-Etsu Silicones of America include an improved optically clear grade, suitable for LED lenses and the like. It’s commercially designated X-34-1972-3 and is available with Shore A hardness of 70. This product was recently demonstrated at Lightfair in Philadelphia where it was molded into eyewear.
Also new is a self-adhesive grade, commercially designated X-34-4172. It’s the first LSR from the company designed to bond to nylon 12 and it has 40A hardness. It is currently used in production of a respiratory device.
