A non-PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) mold release additive specifically developed for high-temperature plastics has been added by Avient to its Colorant Chromatics portfolio of high-temperature polymer additives. The Evoluscend non-PFAS additive is said to enhance the manufacturing processes of high-pressure injection molding by boosting production efficiency and product quality for manufacturers.
Pretested to both FDA food contact requirements and ISO10993 (subparts 4, 5, 10, 11) requirements for health care applications, Evoluscend is available to manufacturers globally, designed to help set new benchmarks in production efficiency without PFAS-based additives.
The Colorant Chromatics Evoluscend mold release additive is said to integrate directly into plastic materials and migrate to the surface during molding to facilitate a smooth demolding experience. This process can help reduce cycle times and boost productivity by reducing demolding times, and protecting the mold and the manufactured plastic parts while utilizing an alternative to PFAS-based additives. More importantly, Evoluscend additive is effective across a range of high-temperature polymers, including PPSU, PES, PSU, PEI, LCP, PPS and PEEK. In addition, it can be combined with polymer colorants where color design is desired in a mold release application.
Key features of Evoluscend include:
- High-Temperature Resistance: Effective across a range of high-temperature polymers with a maximum service temperature exceeding 302°F (150°C), this additive meets the rigorous demands of various manufacturing environments.
- Compliance: Formulated without intentionally added fluoropolymers, fluoroelastomers or other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, Evoluscend offers a non-PFAS alternative to traditional products, supporting manufacturers’ sustainability goals and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Limiting Damage: By acting as a lubricant, Evoluscend can help limit mold damage, supporting the longevity and quality of the mold and the plastic products.
- Boosting Productivity: By easing demolding times, Evoluscend benefits the overall cycle time of injection molding machines, improving throughput without use of PFAS-based additives.
