Toughened, Heat-Stabilized PPA Compounds for Demanding Automotive Applications
Avient’s new Edgetek PPA formulations boast improved heat performance and lower moisture absorption vs. nylon 66 used for underhood components
Impact-modified, heat-stabilized PPA compounds that boast improved heat performance and low moisture absorption versus nylon 66 for demanding applications have been launched by Avient. The new Edgetek Toughened PPA materials are formulated in filled and unfilled grades that reportedly deliver exceptional structural integrity and impact resistance at high temperatures.

These compounds have been shown to maintain tensile strength and tensile elongation properties when tested for long-term thermal aging up to 248 F. With a slower moisture absorption rate than nylon 66, they also help to improve durability and long-term performance. Enhanced chemical resistance makes Edgetek Toughened PPA ideal for a range of rigid applications, such as cooling systems, housings, fuel pumps or structural components.
Said Matt Mitchell, director, global marketing at Avient’s Specialty Engineered Materials division, “This high-performing formulation provides an effective solution for durable, structural applications that need to withstand extreme environments. We’ve combined material science and innovation to expand designers’ ability to solve application challenges.”
